Gerald and Kathleen Hill
Gerald and Kathleen Hill have written eight books together, including Real Life Dictionary of the Law, Real Life Dictionary of American Politics, Aquino Assassination and the popular Hill Guides Napa Valley: Land of Golden Vines, Sonoma Valley: The Secret Wine Country, Victoria and Vancouver Island, The Northwest Wine Country, and Monterey & Carmel: Eden by the Sea.
Gerald has practiced law for more than four decades in both San Francisco's financial district and the town of Sonoma, California. He has an A.B. from Stanford University and Juris Doctor from Hastings College of the Law of the University of California. He served as Executive Director of the Governor's Housing Commission of the State of California, drafted legislation, taught law classes at Golden Gate University Law School, served as an arbitrator and pro tem judge, lectured at several universities, contributed articles to law journals and other publications, edited and co-authored Housing in California, was an elected trustee of a public hospital, and testified before Congressional committees. He has also been an adviser or consultant to numerous public and private agencies, including the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on behalf of the Agency for International Development, Guam, Maryland, and President Carter's transition team.
Kathleen is a writer and publisher who "translated" legal lingo into comprehensible language in The Real Life Dictionary of the Law. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and was awarded an M.A. in political psychology from California State University, Sonoma. She was also a Fellow in Public Affairs with the prestigious Coro Foundation, earned a Certificat from The Sorbonne in Paris, France, headed the Peace Corps Speakers' Bureau in Washington, D.C. worked in the White House for President Kennedy, and was Executive Coordinator of the 25th Anniversary of the United Nations. Kathleen served on a Grand Jury, and as chair of two city commissions. She was Marketing Director at U.C. Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies, and is founding director of the Sonoma Writers Center. Her writing credits include the book Festivals USA, a column for San Francisco Magazine and articles for The Chicago Tribune, The San Francisco Examiner, Cook's Magazine and reporting from the floor of the 1992 Democratic Convention for The Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
Both Hills were visiting scholars at the Institute of Governmental Studies of the University of California, and in 1992 were the first married couple ever elected delegates to a Democratic National Convention.
